MUMC Community Garden Project

Proposed Community Garden Plan

What is the MUMC Community Garden?

We are creating this garden for the community to come together around.  The MUMC pilot garden is located in the back field adjacent to the church pavilion. All are welcome to participate in this Eco-Faith Initiative. You can dig, plant, relax, or sit a spell in our gazebo currently under renovation. We can always use your help and ideas for the growth of this exciting venture. The fruits of the gardens will go to help support the food pantry at Manchaca United Methodist church.

Public Work Days

The community garden will be having public work days the first Saturday of each month from September until December.  Manchaca United Methodist Community Garden would love any help, input, and participation in this project. We are starting from the ground up and already have a few beds in and planted. There is always lots of various work to do. We feel that all can benefit from getting back to the earth and learning more about environmental stewardship. Let's get back to our roots.

We will start at 7:30AM and work until around 10AM-12PM depending on the amount of work to do and the weather.   As the season moves on the starting time may be a bit later and end later with cooler weather.  Please bring a water bottle, gloves, shovels, hat, lawn chair, and whatever you have with which you woud like to garden. Hope to see you there.

The community garden is located the back lot of the Manchaca United Methodist Church, 1011 FM 1626 (intersection of Manchaca Rd and FM 1626).

Possible Future Projects This Fall

Some of the projects we would like to see this fall are:

  • Construction and placement of dirt and compost bins
  • Construction and placement of a new tool shed
  • Weeding
  • Additional bed creation
  • Dirt placement
  • Creation and placement of signage
  • Placement of fencing

Currently, we are looking for 2x8’s, 8 ft. long fencing, dirt, peat moss, trellis materials, and any organic seeds, of course.
