Community Garden

Join us in the Community Garden!

We have created this garden for the community to come together around. The MUMC pilot garden is located in the back field adjacent to the church pavilion. All are welcome to participate in this Eco-Faith Initiative. You can dig, plant, relax, or sit a spell in our gazebo. We can always use your help and ideas for the growth of this exciting venture. The fruits of the gardens will go to help support the food pantry at Manchaca United Methodist church.  The Eco-Faith Team (EFI) has had  a good start to the year!  January and February we were blessed to host “Little Helping Hands” (a group that promotes volunteerism in small children) for a garden workday in our community garden.  Each month, on the first Saturday of the month, we spend a few hours teaching and promoting outdoor and gardening skills to children and their families.  I have say that I think I learn more in that single hour about how strong children can be when they are engaged.    Join us Manchaca UMC families!  Come see how our group can engage our community in a relaxed, easy way as we learn about water collection, bug identification, and even how to use a shovel with our future generations.  We want to be a resource to this community.

  • Does anyone know any of their grandma's secret tricks for gardening?
  • What about Grandpa's reason for saving  cans in the garage?
  • What about your mom’s secret to making your laundry smell nice?
  • Or your Dad's way to keep the weeds down in the front yard so you could play ball.
  • Our kids want to know...  Who will teach them...?  Are you concerned if they don’t know?

Come share a cup of coffee and your experience with us and help our kids learn fun, natural ways to engage the outdoors!  First Saturday of the month in the back garden at the church from 10:00 to 11:30 am. Other events planned by EcoFaith for this year in the spring and summer are a document shredding day, an aluminum can recycling drive ( the church collects those) and an electronic recycling day.

If you’d like more information about any of these events or if you’d like to join the EcoFaith Team and make a difference engaging the outdoors and caring for our environment contact Bill Palecek at bill@htssecurityinc.com or garden@manchacaumc.org or Pastor Tracey at tracey@manchacaumc.org or check out the website at manchacaumc.org/community-garden or manchacaumc.org/eco-faith-initiative.

Hope to see y’all visit us!
