A Note from Pastor David - Performing the Word
The typical church pastor and staff member spends a lot of energy preparing for Sunday mornings. This is appropriate as the weekly gathering of the church has been important since the birth of the church almost 2,000 years ago. The author of the letter of Hebrews in the New Testament cautioned believers “not to give up meeting together as some are in the habit of doing” (10:25). So it makes sense to me to make the most of our Sunday gathering of worship even when it is online. To this end I am pleased to tell you about some changes we are making to our weekday “Nourishment at Noon” segments which we have doing every weekday for more than five months. Next week are shifting to doing only Mondays and Thursdays at noon; but these segments will tie into the weekly worship gathering. On Mondays, Chansin and I will be having a time of dialogue and reflection on the message from the day before. You can join in by sharing any questions you have in the comments section on Facebook following the sermon. Or you can email questions directly to me at email@example.com. On Thursdays Kim and Mark will take turns helping to prepare us for the following Sunday’s worship through music, prayer, and teaching.
Leaders in the earlier centuries of the church had a phrase they liked to use: “performing the Word.” This expressed their hope that worshippers would live out the Scriptures in their daily lives. My hope is that our new “Nourishment at Noon” segments will help us live out the Sunday worship experience on Monday through Saturday.
I look forward to worshipping with you in person this Sunday, September 6, outdoors at 8:30am, at the drive in communion at 9:45 or online at 8:30 or 11:00. I also look forward to reflecting on these experiences with you on Monday, September 7, at noon.
