Reading at Marbridge: Manchaca Children Practice Their Faith Through a Reading Program at Marbridge
As part of Children's Ministry this summer, several kids (and their parents) are reading to residents at Marbridge Ranch. Marbridge is a private residential facility for adults with a wide range of abilities and needs. MUMC kids are meeting with some residents for an hour during the week to read with them, play games, make crafts, etc. We meet with the residents during their Recreation and Leisure class on Wednesday mornings.
Marbridge is a very special place and has been part of our family's life since we moved to Manchaca. It is important to us that our child sees the value in all people regardless of race, religion, or cognitive level. The hour on Wednesday allows Finley to serve others and build friendships. Even if a resident cannot speak, they bond over things they have in common, like a book or a craft. It's amazing to see our kids in action - having a lot of fun while serving others. And, the residents LOVE when kids come to visit. It brings a new energy to the Ranch and everyone's leaves with smiles.

Note from Ms. Kim:
At Manchaca UMC we believe that children are not the future of the church, but active participants of the body of Christ right now. We disciple children by giving them opportunities to learn and grow in their faith, which includes serving and caring for others. Caring Kids is a Children's Ministry that gives families with children of all ages the opportunity to practice Jesus' call to "love your neighbor" through various service, mission and outreach projects throughout the year.
