Walking with Wesley
Ever wondered about the origins of Methodism and the United Methodist Church? Beginning on Sunday, September 21, Pastor John invites you to join on an eight week “Walk with Wesley.” Students will examine how early Methodism develops as a para-church holiness movement during the life and ministry of its founder John Wesley. Using material from the book Wesley and the People Called Methodist by Richard Heitzenreiter and primary sources, “Walking with Wesley” will carry students into Wesley’s life experiences, the spiritual teachings, and practices that together gave rise to the Methodist revival movement in Great Britain and the formation of the Methodist Episcopal Church in the newly formed United States of America. Whether you are exploring church membership or a lifetime Methodist, “Walking with Wesley” will be a journey of enlightenment and inspiration.

A Jesus-Shaped Life
Women of all ages are invited to join us on Monday mornings this fall for a time of sharing, caring for one another and faith building! This fall we'll be exploring the depths of God's character, God's love for us, and how our relationship with God transforms us through Lisa Harper's Bible study, A Jesus-Shaped Life. With Lisa's guidance we'll unpack rich theological concepts such as:
Imago Dei - what it means to be made in God's image
Hypostatic Union - Jesus as both fully human and fully God
Christ's Transcendance - above and beyond all creation, holy, eternal and sovereign, and Christ's Immanence - presence with and near to his creation
Coram Deo - living every moment in the presence of God, and
Pneumatology - the Holy Spirit's role and work in our lives
Come and experience God in all God's fullness as we grow closer to Christ and to one another in faith. Please purchase the Jesus-Shaped Life Study Book. There is no pre-reading for this class.

The Tears of Things: Prophetic Wisdom for an Age of Outrage
How do we live compassionately in a time of violence and despair? What can we do with our private disappointments and the anger we feel in such an unjust world? In his most personal book yet, Richard Rohr turns to the writings of the Jewish prophets, revealing how some of the lesser-read books of the Bible offer us a crucial path forward today.

The prophets’ writings reflect the full spectrum of human maturity. In almost every case, their initial rage and their accusatory words evolve into a profound pathos and lamentation about our shared human condition and the world’s suffering. Through astute critiques of culture and institutions, and their journey from anger to sadness, and ultimately compassion, the prophets exemplify what Rohr calls “sacred criticism”—a distinct approach to confronting evil and injustice that acknowledges the wholeness of history, the interconnectedness of every living being, and the reality of a divine and universal love. In this, they set the stage for Jesus, who follows this identical pattern.

In this study we will read through Richard Rohr's book, study prophetic scriptures in the Bible, and listen to podcasts between the author and guest speakers as we seek a compassionate way of living in a hurting world. Please purchase the book before the first class. There is no pre-reading needed for the first, introductory class on September 9.

The Book of Revelation
Join us as we explore the symbolic language, imagery, and prophetic messages of this prime example of Apocryphal literature. The focus will be on understanding how the book's goal was to provide encouragement to believers and hope for the future. We will approach this study of Revelation with the understanding that it holds a place in scripture because it offers meaning and significance at all times, in the past, right now, and in the future as a symbolic depiction of God's plan and ultimate triumph over oppressive human systems.
